Hey there!

We can use our slope given two points formula to calculate the slope.

y2-y1/x2-x1

Plug in values:

-1-8/-2-(-5)

Simplify:

-9/-2 + 5 =

-9/3 =

-3/1

That means negative three is our slope. Since slope is defined as ride over run, it goes up 3 and to the left one. That's because slope is also defined as up/right, and if it's negative you're going left.
