There is no doubt that most laws and rules are there to keep us safe, and as such should be respected and followed. However, there are times when a law doesn't have solid reasoning behind it, and is not worth following.
For example, there is a law in place in the USA prohibiting people under the age of 18 to carry pepper spray. This law essentially prohibits young people from carrying something to defend themselves should they be attacked by a person or an animal. Is a law that prohibits you from keeping yourself safe really one that should be followed?
In the realm of personal experience, there have been countless times where myself and friends were put in danger when we were younger, and had we had something like pepper spray to defend ourselves, we could have come out of those situations safe and at least relatively unscathed. So for me, a law that prohibited me from protecting myself is not one that will ever be worth following.
(hope this helps!)
