Tangential projection means "along the same plane" or tangent of an object or surface. In order to observe the "tangential projection" of the cheekbone or "zygomatic arch" as it is sometimes called; tilting the head fifteen degrees away from yourself will allow you examine or imagine the projected plane of the cheekbone.
