Anhydrous calcium chloride is hygroscopic and can attract water from the atmosphere. After anhydrous calcium chloride gets water, it will become hydrous calcium chloride. This allows the anhydrous calcium chloride to reduce water vapor continuously in the air-tight sealed container. It can be used to protect substance that can react with water or preserve food by lowering the humidity.
