x + y = 16......x = 16 - y
x + 5y = 56

16 - y + 5y = 56
16 + 4y = 56
4y = 56 - 16
4y = 40
y = 40/4
y = 10 <== there are 10 five dollar bills

x + y = 16
x + 10 = 16
x = 16 - 10
x = 6 <=== there are 6 one dollar bills
