The distance between two points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂) is
[tex]d= \sqrt{(x_{2} -x_{1})^{2} + (y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}} [/tex]

Therefore the distance between (-5,1) and (-2, 3) is
[tex] \sqrt{(-2+5)^{2} + (3-1)^{2}} =3.6056[/tex]

Answer: 3.61  (nearest hundredth)
