The limbic system of the brain is responsible for emotional processing, but also for higher mental functions, such as learning and formation of memories.
It is the emotion center of the brain located beneath the cerebrum on both sides of the thalamus. The component of the limbic system are: the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, basal ganglia, and cingulate gyrus.
