Henrietta Swan Leavitt discovered the relationship between the fluctuating period of variable stars and their intrinsic brightness. She discovered this relation in the Cepheid variable stars. Her discovery continued by Harlow Shapley in his study. This discovery plays an important role in astronomy. Much development is made from this discovery.
