What was the problem during the Louisiana Purchase?

The biggest problems were surveying the land and figuring out whether the newly acquired territory was going to be free or slave territory. There was a battle going on for years over this between the north and south and when the Louisiana purchase was introduced, the battle got very heated and led up to the civil war. look up bloody
