2x+2.90y=2.50(16) ------> equation 1

x+y=16-----> x=16-y -----> equation 2

solve the system of equations

substitute equation 2 in equation 1

2(16-y)+2.90y=40

solve for y

32-2y+2.90y=40

2.90y-2y=40-32

0.90y=8

y=8.89

Find out the value of x

x=16-8.89
