For every tonne of coal burned, approximately 2.5 tonnes of CO2e are produced. 6 Of all the different types of fossil fuels, coal produces the most carbon dioxide. Because of this and it's high rate of use, coal is the largest fossil fuel source of carbon dioxide emissions.
