What was the purpose of adopting the Twelfth Amendment and how did it change the Electoral College system?

The purpose of the twelfth amendment was to fix a flaw that had been discovered. Because of the flaw, Thomas Jefferson tied in the Electoral college with his vice presidential candidate Aaron Burr. It changed the system because it no longer had legislators choose but rather the people in an indirect vote.
