adding the coordinates of two points together and dividing them by two gives you back the midpoint of the segment.
i.e. the x coordinate for the midpoint is (-2+(-10))/2=-6
the y coordinate for the midpoint is (7+(-1))/2=3
Hence, the midpoint is (-6,3)
