Why would the shrimp in the ecosphere die if there was no sunlight?

Answer:

The shrimp would die wthout sunlight because they eat algae and algae live on the water's surface. Algae undergo photosynthesis and for photosynthesis to occur, sunlight is necessary. If there is no sunlight, there is no algae. And without the algae around the shrimp no longer have anything to eat. Therefore, without the sunlight (and algae) the shrimp will not be able to survive.
