SOund NAvigation  and Ranging (SONAR) is a tool that is used to determine the depth of the oceans. This uses a combined transmitter and receiver (combined term is called transducer) which sends signals to the ocean floor. These impulses are sent back to the monitoring system when these hit on the floor.
