Serbia was the country who directly supported the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in 1914. The assassination of the Archduke of Austria and the Duchess of Hohenberg led the Central Powers (Austria-Hungary and Germany) to declare a war against Serbia. The gunman was identified as a Bosnian Serb named Gavrilo Princip.
