Jim is 39

let x be Jim's age then Pamela is x - 15

thus x + x - 15 = 63 → ( sum of their ages)

2x - 15 = 63

add 15 to both sides

2x = 63 + 15 = 78

divide both sides by 2

x = [tex]\frac{78}{2}[/tex] = 39

Jim is 39 and Pamela is 24
