how do you solve for Y in x=5 +8y-8

x = 5 + 8y - 8

Combine like terms.

x = -3 + 8y

Add 3 to both sides.

x + 3 = 8y

Divide both sides by 8.

y = [tex] \frac{x+3}{8} [/tex]
